Description: 950 Silver early 20th
century Japanese Cigarette Case made by renowned Silversmith Miyamoto Shoko. The case is in an art deco style with gentle concave shape. The front side upper right hand corner is initialled “T.K.”. The cigarette case is presented in a felt and silk lined presentation case. The inside of the lid printed Miyamoto Shoko, Tokyo in English and the Japanese Characters
宮本商行
(miya-moto-sho-kou). The gold wash interior of the case is hallmarked ‘950 SILVER and the Japanese characters
宮本造
(miya-moto-zou) – Manufactured by Miyamoto.
** Note to Buyers ** Case dimensions are W7.5cm x H 8.5cm x 0.8cm and weight 83g. This case will not accommodate modern cigarettes. Prior to the 1950s and the introduction of filters most cigarettes were ~
70 mm (~2 3/4 in) long and much shorter than modern filter cigarettes which are ~80 mm. Notwithstanding, the case could be repurposed as a luxurious cash/card holder.

Notes of interest: Miyamoto Shoko was established in 1880, initially offering tobacco cases aimed at the foreign market, and ‘zoukan’ silver inlay frames, before broadening its product range. Prioritising works in silver of high quality and durability, Based in Ginza, Miyamoto Shoko found early admirers among foreign resident merchants and diplomatic community in Tokyo. The Japanese Imperial Family granted a Royal warrant that Miyamoto Shoko retains today. Their work adorns the table at the royal guesthouse, and the banquets held for visiting dignitaries. The reason that the shop’s silver is sought after, lies in its failure to fade after many years of use, the universal ‘classic’ feel to the work, and the minute patterning added to the pieces by expert craftspeople. At their original location in Ginza, Miyamoto Shoko offers forks, spoons, knives and the cutlery to be expected, but also glasses, tea utensils, sake tableware, and even silver accessories for special occasions.
